As a woman, I do not know about you, but I have fallen victim to some beauty emergencies whilst on vacation. And the most frustrating thing can be trying to find a good spa for an appointment when you are not from the area. Of course, we can always ask the receptionist at our hotels for suggestions, and they do have their own businesses they work with. Some can be reliable, I simply prefer the best value for quality services.

Having said that should you find yourself in Johannesburg, South Africa and need your nails or lashes in need of a touch up, Candycaked Studio is the place to go.

We had the opportunity to interview the Founder of Candycaked Studio, a beauty hub home to independent beauty providers based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has a unique story that can encourage many women from different walks of life that through hard work and perseverance your dreams will indeed come true. Without giving too much away let us hear directly from the future beauty mogul herself.

AE: When was Candycaked Aesthetics born:

CC: Candycaked Aesthetics was born in 2019

AE: What is the driving force/ vision behind Candycaked:

CC: I was always passionate about the beauty industry, I would see the American girlies with their lashes and brows done and I really just want to get into that.

AE: What sets Candycaked apart from other beauty service providers:

CC: Candycaked can be set apart by its values- our top values being Attention to Detail (I am very particular about how things are done, a control freak and perfectionist to an extent, I am not a fan of half measures so I go all out to make sure Candycaked is represented in the best possible way) and Customer Service- I am also very particular about experiences- what each customer experiences from the time they walk into the studio to the time they walk out. This is our driving force and what sets us apart on any day.

AE: How are your Candycaked Studio show corporate social responsibility:

CC: The idea of Candycakedlashes/Candycaked Studio is to have different services under one roof. Various talented women working to make other women beautiful. This idea came about because starting out as a beautician can be difficult, intimidating and lonely. It is hard to find a conducive, supportive environment, so Candycaked studio assists with clientele and confidence as well as drive. We also aim to empower women with the eyelash extensions classes we host very month. We are striving to remove the preconceived notion that the beauty industry is not lucrative or “a proper job”, as it is looked down on often. I always say- As long as there are beauty standards to keep up with, the Beauty industry will always be in business. The Beauty Industry/Business is a forever career.

AE: Any plans for the future:

CC: Expansion, Consistency, Bigger and Better.

AE: Who is the person behind Candycaked:

CC: My name is Candace, I am born and bred in Harare Zimbabwe, i initially moved to South africa for my tertiary education, then found myself doing a 2 day lash course. I have always been interested in the beauty industry, I didn’t know what I wanted to pursue in particular until I came across lashes. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, I work hard and I am resilient. I love the beauty industry and I enjoy what I do.

AE: Any fun facts about Candycaked:

CC: Candycaked ran from the edge of a bed for about 2years. We only got our first lash bed last year. (Now if that isn’t a testament to growth I do not know what is. Owning an entire studio with three rooms. That is quite impressive.)

AE: What is the best part about the job for you:

CC: the best part of the job is the reviews. Knowing that clients are happy with our work is heart warming and drives us to work harder and continue to improve.

AE: Any advice to women who may considering venturing into this field:

CC: I know this will sound cliche but You need to seriously ask yourself why you want to venture into anything, it gets really, really hard and lonely, it gets depressing and you will want to throw in the towel too many a time. You need to see the journey through no matter what. See it through. And start wherever you are with whatever you have no matter how little.
